ABOUT THE TEXT - The Book of Assistance
There are many books in English that present spiritual doctrine, but few that can be used as practical travel guides along the spiritual path. Originally written in classical Arabic, this volume is in widespread use among scholars in Arabia, Indonesia, and East Africa; its devotions, prayers, and practical ethics are invaluable as a guide along the spiritual path.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Imam ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Alawi al-Haddad lived in Tarim in the Hadramawt Valley between Yemen and Oman. He is widely accepted as the renewer of the 12th Islamic century. He is a direct descendant of the Prophet, peace be upon him, through Imam al-Husayn. His illustrious ancestors, had for centuries produced generation after generation of great scholars and gnostics. A celebrated scholar of the Shafi’i School of Jurisprudence, Imam al-Haddad was renowned for the breadth of his knowledge and the profundity of insight.

He is also known for compiling litanies of dhikr taken from the Qur’an and the Prophet peace be upon him. These litanies are widely practiced all over the world and his books are still in print and have been translated into many languages. He endeavored to produce concise and clear texts, many of which are abbreviated adaptations of Imam al-Ghazali’s monumental work, Revival of the Islamic Sciences (Ihya ‘Ulum al-Din). Imam al-Haddad passed away in 1132 A.H. and is buried in Tarim, Yemen.
