What's the Matter with Kansas?
A Weekend with Dr. Johnathan Brown & Dr. Mairaj Syed
Friday, September 27

1) What's the Matter with Kansas? Shariah's Place in the West
Parking is located in the East Garage, across from the Recreation and Wellness Center.

Shariah Law has become a charged word in the United States, with Kansas signing an"anti-Shariah" bill into law in 2012, joining several states who have already passed or have mulled passing this bill.

Shariah literally means "the path to water." Just as we need water to sustain our existence, so too do we need guidance on how to conduct our daily activities in light of Prophetic teachings. Though we live in a different time and place than where Islamic code originated, Shariah remains as relevant and timeless today as it did during the time of our Prophet Muhammad (s).

Questions we will explore include:
  • How did Shariah evolve over time?
  • What relevance does it have to our presence in the West?
  • What are modern adaptations of Shariah?
  • What are facts compared to the mainstream narrative?
