Fast for Syria in Solidarity Next Thursday, Feb 13
Dear brothers and sisters, Asslamu Alaikum.
While we stay committed to stop genocide in Burma, today we stand in solidarity with our brothers and sisters in Syria. So this update from Burma Task Force is a statement of solidarity with the Syrian civilians who are starving at the hand of a dictator, who is crushing their democracy movement with bombs. I hope that other country-focused coalitions also once in a while issue statements of solidarity for causes other than theirs. It is the least we can do to strengthen our humanity by brining other concerns in our hearts for dua and support.
What Can You Do?The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, told us, “The Believers, in their mutual love, mercy and compassion, are like one body: if one part complains, the rest of the body responds with weakness and fever” (Bukhari & Muslim).
The Syrian war against its own people is one of the worst humanitarian disasters of its magnitude of our time. 40 percent of the country’s population of 22 million is suffering.
We request you to take following actions:
1- Fast for Syrian Muslims next Thursday (February 13, 2014). This gesture of solidarity will not only remind us of the suffering of innocent people, but also coincide with the Sunnah of the Prophet, peace be upon him, who recommended voluntary fasting on Thursdays.
2- Make heart-felt Dua to Allah to ease the pain of our Syrian brothers and sisters suffering in bitter cold hunger in the refugee camps.
3- Request your Imam this Friday to make a special Dua for the helpless in Syria.
4- Donate to the humanitarian efforts in Syria. There are several credible relief agencies working on the ground bringing relief to the needy there.
May Allah guide the unjust oppressors to peace and harmony, Ameen.
May Allah bring quick and complete relief to the hopeless and innocent in the Syrian conflict, Ameen.
