Qatar has been an important ally of the United States since the mid-1990s, and currently serves as host to critical U.S. military facilities. In June 2013, Emir Hamad bin Khalifa al Thani abdicated in favor of his son Tamim bin Hamad, who now leads a nation that was transformed under his father's tenure. Today, Qatar is an independent regional power with substantial resources and a global impact.
Ambassador Al Kuwari will discuss Qatar’s vision for the future, as well as its pivotal role in the Arab spring and the Syrian conflict.
H.E. Mohammed Al Kuwari is the Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the United States. He previously served as Qatar’s Ambassador to France and as non-resident Ambassador to Monaco and Portugal. As Director of European and American Affairs, Al Kuwari headed the delegation of the Qatari political and strategic dialogue with France. He has received numerous acknowledgements and awards for his service including the Chevalier of the Legion of Honor of France and the medal of cooperation from the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina. In 2007, the President of France presented Al Kuwari with an officer badge of the Legion of Honor, the highest decoration in France.
