Here is a 3-day Plan for Victory:
The event has ended!
Houston
Monday, May 05, 2014 To Wednesday, May 07, 2014
Assalamu Alaikum,

Dear Sisters and Brothers,

We need your URGENT attention and immediate ACTION.

The Congress will vote on House Resolution 418 this Wednesday, May 7th, 2104. The resolution urges the government of Burma (Myanmar) to end the persecution of the Rohingya people and restore their citizenship.

We only have two days to make sure this important Resolution is passed, Insha Allah!

Your calls have been working, and Alhamdulillah, so far we have 49 Congresspersons who have co-sponsored this resolution. The resolution has 83% chance of getting passed. However, we must get the majority of the 435 members of the House of Representatives to support this.

Trust me, this is doable.

Here is a 3-day Plan for Victory:

1. Today call both the local and D.C. offices of your representative
  • Insist on speaking with the Chief of Staff or a legislative assistant -- this is urgent!
  • Use this link to find your House Representative
  • State that you urge Congressman/woman X to vote in favor of House Resolution 418
  • See the talking points later in this email
  • Tell them you will be calling back to learn how the Congressperson plans to vote
2. On Tuesday, follow up by calling back to ask what is the update in this regard
3. On Wednesday, call first thing in the morning to ask when is the vote on House Resolution 418. Tell them that you have heard it is today and you just want to make sure that your representative votes yes on the resolution.

Give 20 Minutes a Day for Burma for 3 Days

Normally we ask for 10 minutes to call and help out the Burmese Muslims, but now we ask you to please give 20 minutes a day in this crucial time. A daily phone call to your Congressperson is critical and follow up is important.

This is a bi-partisan issue. If you live in a Republican district, your call is even more valuable and needed. Out of the 49 co-sponsors, only 14 are Republicans.

After the Phone Call to Your Representative’s Office, Get Other Friends to Call:

  1. Encourage 10 friends to also call their Congressperson.
  2. Have your masjid announce it through their email list
  3. Download the attached Action Alert and distribute to friends, family, and fellow mosque-goers.
  4. Put this up on your facebook and twitter.

Talking Points:

Tell them that you live in their constituency, and you along with others are concerned with the state of Rohingyans and other minorities in Burma.
  1. Rohingyas have suffered for a generation under highly restrictive laws. Their citizenship was taken away; they cannot marry or have children; cannot practice their faith freely; cannot even get an education, or medical care.
  2. To succeed, Burma must adopt more inclusive and compassionate policies.
  3. We need our government to put pressure on the Burmese government to end this persecution of the Rohingyans and other minorities.
  4. Please vote for this resolution and urge your peers to vote for it as well.

Please help your brothers and sisters in Burma. They urgently need your help.

Peace

Abdul Malik Mujahid
Chair, Burma Task Force

P.S. please keep us informed on info@BurmaMuslims.org about the response you are getting from your Congressperson.
