As salaam o alaikum,
I am a first year Ph.D. student in the department of Comparative Human Development at the University of Chicago. My research entails exploring and documenting the experiences of Muslim American women, beginning from adolescence and moving into adulthood and marriage. I will conduct this research through interviews and brief questionnaires. The first step of my project involves interviewing adolescent Muslim girls, aged 11-16. The interviews will ask about the participants' daily experiences and interactions with their Muslim and non-Muslim peers, as well as their perceptions of themselves. It is meant to be casual, open, and (hopefully) enjoyable for the participant; there are no wrong answers, as I am interested in hearing what they themselves have to say. Parental consent would be required, as well as consent from the girl herself.
As I am originally from Houston--born and raised there, as well as attended the University of Houston--I am excited to come back and conduct my research in my home city. I am currently looking for girls who fit the description above in Houston who would be willing to be interviewed. If you know of anyone--sisters, daughters, neighbors, friends--who would be eligible to participate, please let me know. You can either send me their contact information (if they are comfortable with it) or send my contact information to them. (My email address is tasneem@uchicago.edu.) I am in need of a total of 15 participants.
I would be deeply grateful for any help you could provide me in helping move my research forward.
Sincerely,
Tasneem Mandviwala
