ABOUT THE SPEAKER:
HISHAM MAHMOUD has studied the traditional disciplines of Islam, including theology, hadith, legal theory, jurisprudence, Qur'anic recitation, and ethics with scholars in the Muslim world, and he continues to read in these sciences with his teachers and with students in the United States. He has edited several scholarly works in Islamic Studies and his first published work is his translation of a seminal commentary on Imam al-Tirmidhi's Kitab al-Shama'il, entitled "A Portrait of the Prophet." Currently, Hisham Mahmoud is a Lecturer at Harvard University, and he has previously held positions at Princeton, Yale, and Middlebury.
