The screening of the award winning documentary "These Birds Walk" (trailer) on Thursday, March 13th at the River Oaks Theater at 7:30pm.
It is a movie about the life of Abdul Sattar Edhi who started a social and civic network to take care of the needy in Pakistan. He is truly a legend and this is the only documentary that chronicles his work. He has been working for and living among the poor of Pakistan since 1947 to create rescue programs for over 20,000 abandoned infants, rehabilitation programs for over 50,000 orphans, training programs for over 40,000 nurses, and hundreds of food kitchens, shelters, and clinics for the mentally handicapped. Despite all this, Edhi remains a simple man -- owning two pairs of clothes and having never taken a salary from his own organization.
After the viewing there will be a Q&A with one of the Directors, Bassam Tariq, who is a native Houstonian. "These Birds Walk" has won many awards, including a Sundance Nomination and this is our chance to see this renown film. You can buy tickets for $11 here.
