Our up-coming lecture:
"The One-sided Story"
The famous saying "Disagreement among scholars is a mercy" symbolizes the wide margin within which Muslims can exercise their faith in a manner that suits their time and place. For centuries, differing opinions were presented side-by-side in a rich scholarly environment. However, since the heydays of Islamic thought, this diversity of schools of thought has gradually been replaced by one-sided camps that often marginalize and even ridicule differing views. This decline of scholarly thought is clearest in the study of Halal (lawful) and Haram (unlawful). Unfortunately, it is now too common to see the strictest of a wide range of scholarly opinions being misrepresented as a unanimous Islamic position. This restrictive atmosphere has not only caused dire difficulties to Muslims, but also violated some vital Quranic principles. In this seminar, we discuss the implications of this serious problem especially on Muslim youth in the West and demonstrate it using familiar examples.
Come & spend some quality time with us to enjoy this interesting lecture!!
