IFEducation will be hosting a fundraising dinner, the first event this year to work toward our goal of funding 20 student awards in 2015. The dinner will be held a Nazif's starting at 7:30, there will be a small talk during dinner on who we are and what we do as a non-profit. As a uiversity student when I was in college I really tried my hardest to avoid interest because I knew that it was Haram but that wasn't possible. I thought that there must be a way to make higher education possible without making people deal with interest and providing a huge profit to the banks while students are put in difficulty after graduation with enormous debts that only get bigger. As a result, I had an idea. Why don't we have a pool of funds that we can give to students to replace their interest loans with 0% interest loans. Instead of banks making three times as much on a loan when the loans are returned they go back to the pool and help more people. After a couple years I realized it will only stay an idea unless I actually do something about it to make it happen.
Alhamdulilah last year IFEducation opened as a non-profit in the state of Texas that does just that. We got it to be tax exempt and classified as a 501c3 orgainization (your donation is tax deducatble). We were able to set up all the contracts and legal documents, create a website, and make the first award. This year we want to make 15 to 20. We want to change the conversation. We want education to be available and easy, to lighten our brothers and sisters debt, we want to change the conversation, and we want you to help us make that possible.
