Syria: On the Ground with the Kurds Fighting ISIS
Barak Barfi has reported extensively for many years from both Iraq and Syria, which he has covertly entered many times. Most recently he spent a few weeks on the ground with Kurdish forces fighting in Northeastern Syria where he was only 400 yards away from ISIS front lines. Barfi will talk about his time in both Syria and Iraq; and what the future might hold for each country and the region.
Why is ISIS so strong and how did it spread so quickly? How successful have the Kurds been at fighting ISIS? Why has the Syrian civil war been so incredibly violent, and why is it so important to so many different nations? And now with Russia putting troops and planes on the ground in Syria, what are the regional and global implications? Heavy appetizers served.
